It is out of reach from the frequent hurricanes that are menacing the Caribbean Basin, Mexico and South Eastern USA. The area has a stable geological structure and has had no earthquakes or live volcanoes. It is for all these reasons after all that it was selected for the construction of the Panama Canal.
